What sort of fabrics do you use to make your pads?

I use 100% cotton fabrics, with the exception of the nylon layer; soft flannel or calico fabrics that are attractive and will hold up in the wash. Cotton calico can be used for the 'envelope' portion of your pads, at your request. I think the calico pads seem a bit cooler in the summer months, personally. If cotton calico is your preference, be sure to specify 'calico' with your order, otherwise I will assume you want flannel.  As always, the insert will be made from flannel, and using calico for the envelope doesn't seem to reduce absorbency at all.

Are the lite/reg/maxi pads different sizes?

The lite/reg/maxi pads all have an 'envelope' that is essentially the same width (~3"), and either 7", 9", or 12" long. Into this envelope, you will place an insert. It's the size of the insert that determines the weight of the pad. If the insert you use folds to just 2 layers, the pad is a lite. If the insert has 4 layers, it is a regular. If there are 8 layers in the insert, it is a maxi. So you see, one envelope could house any range of the inserts, and you get a variety of absorbencies then. If you order a few extra inserts, you have quite a versatile 'pad wardrobe' that can adjust to meet your needs of the day.

Do you make All In One Pads?

Yes, I have recently added two new All In One pads to the line-up.  They are pictured on the Products page, and are capable of being refolded during bathroom-trips to expose a new, fresh top-side so you can "freshen up" a bit.  Refolding in this way can give you four different top-sides, and this is a definite plus.  I have used this design myself for over a year and just love it.  I have the maxi absorbency in the 9"-length, and have never had a bit of problem with it;  I've never bled-through it and it is very comfortable.  I feel confident that you will like it as well.

How many pads do I need?

How many pads you need depends on a number of factors: Are you going to use these as a back-up for tampon or Keeper use, or these going to be your sole source of menstrual protection?
If these are to be a pantiliner-type backup, then probably 6 to 8 regular pads would be enough. Some women only feel they need a backup only on the heaviest days, and 4 pads are sufficient for their needs.  Generally speaking, "You will use about the same amount of cloth pads as you used in disposable pads."
If these are to be your 'sole-support', most women find that a dozen pads is necessary, depending on your situation. Some of us just need more support than others, if you follow my meaning. You alone know what your needs are in this department. But the 'average woman' would get by quite nicely on 12 pads.  I keep one pad in my car for emergencies. smile  (Feel free to email me to ask for more specifics; I never mind answering questions about the pads, and will help in any way I can!)  Adding a few additional inserts makes your collection quite able to handle your needs.  A sample order could look like this:

4 Long Maxis in bold flannel, lined
3 Long Regulars in pastel calico, unlined
2 Long Maxi AIOs in Bold
4 pantiliners (6"): 2 pastel and 2 whimsical
1 short Lite pad of animal print flannel, lined
2 Long Regular inserts

*The Keeper (and also the similarly-built Divacup) that I mentioned is a wonderful item, and can be purchased from several places. Here are a few links where you could purchase one from wonderful ladies I have met online:
DiaperPin.com's Keeper Page
My friend Jean (lowest price for Keepers!! And it doesn't hurt that she's a really really NICE lady!)
The Diva Company - for the Diva cup, a silicone menstrual cup

Do the pads always have to have the nylon layer?

Most women seem to want the added protection of a water-resistant nylon layer. But to have NO nylon layer makes the pads even more breathe-able, so some ladies prefer that I make the pad without it. The nylon I use is a wind-breaker material, so it is going to be a bit breathe-able just by virtue of it's weave.  Personally, I have some pads that are lined, and some that are not.  For ladies who like to wear a pantiliner every day for 'freshness', I would recommend my new cloth  pantiliners.  Or, if you'd like something a little more absorbent, you could order unlined, short, lite pads for that purpose.  (note: short pads are available in calico, if you were wishing for pantiliners in calico......)

How do I wash my new cotton pads? Is it difficult to get them clean?

These pads are very easy to clean and maintain. I will send detailed washing instructions with your pads, but will give a brief description here:
I always take the insert out of the envelope upon removal, and rinse them both well. Then I set both parts to soak in a lidded bucket that has water, detergent, and hydrogen peroxide in it. On washday, launder as you would wash socks or any other small item, using vinegar as a fabric softener.
The biggest reason I chose originally to use two-part pads with folded inserts (as opposed to layered-and-sewn-together inserts) is for the laundry: an insert that unfolds has no crevices or hidden layers that could harbor any menstrual residue. They wash up very easily and dry faster as well!  I find them very easy to care-for and am sure you will, as well!

How much is shipping, what payment-types do you accept, and how long will my order take?

Shipping can vary, depending on the quantity and weight of the pads you choose.  Orders totaling up to $25 are just $3; orders totaling over $25 will be shipped Priority and are "actual postage" and your postage will be calculated upon receipt of order. Insurance is also an option you may choose.  (I will pack and address the items well, but cannot be responsible for postal mishaps.)
Good News: I am able to accept PayPal, for 'cash transfers', 'e-checks' and for credit-card and debit-card payments!!!  Let me know if you need info on this wonderful way of shopping and paying online!! (it works particularly well for overseas orders!) And I still accept money-orders and personal checks, for your convenience.

I try really hard to ship orders out within 3 business-days after your payment arrives.  I will get them in the mail as fast as humanly possible; customer satisfaction is my key priority and I work really hard to get your items to you quickly.

Testimonials:

LisaJaney, Just to let you know that I received the pads today - that was quick!  They are beautiful! I love the fabrics you chose for me and how soft they are - it will be a luxury to have to go thru "that time" now.  I can't wait for the next two weeks to go by so I can put them to use (first time I've ever looked forward to my period! LOL).  And your customer service has been the best I've had on the web, especially the way you kept me informed every step of the way.  I can't put into words how wonderful my experience had been in working with you on a product of such a personal nature.  These are simply the best-made pads, and the prices are the most reasonable of any of the dozens of different kinds I researched.  I have a 10-year-old daughter, and when her time comes (hopefully not too soon), I'm going to tell her about your alternative to those scratchy, messy, stinky, expensive store-bought pads!  I'm sure she'll look forward to her shipment from you, as I did.  I will be sure to let you know if I need more.  Thank you so much!

LisaJaney, I know that I've bragged about your pads....but girl, I had to write one more time - I just took my first batch out of the dryer after my cycle ended.  Can I just tell you HOW much I LOVE these again !!!  My (other-brand) ones come out of the dryer looking like prunes, all shriveled up and I have to re-dry often to flatten them out.  NOT YOURS - I took yours out, expecting the same...my oh my...what a pleasant surprise.  Nice and flat, yummy soft and ready to be put right away....  Girl - THESE ARE SO GREAT !  Okay....I'll quit...just thought I'd share - always nice to hear great things, and I know that I've gushed enough!  But I had to rave again now that I've actually "tried" them.....LOL  Thanks again,

--M.C.

"Dear Lisa,
I just wanted to send you a quick note to say I LOVE the pads!!! They are so comfortable to wear, like sitting on a pillow! I'd like to compliment you on your workmanship, too. My mother was a seamstress and, even though I didn't inherit ANY of her sewing talent, I do know quality work when I see it. The animal prints are great, too. They put a smile on my face every time I see
them!
I'll probably contact you again in the spring for some of the lighter fabric pads for the summer months. Right now, though, the soft flannel feels warm and cozy. I only wish I had found you years ago, Lisa. Thank you so much!

"LisaJaney, Last month I ordered pads from you for my 14 year old daughter. She had sewed herself some pads when she first began menstruating 2 years ago. As her periods got heavier and she began leaking, she switched to disposable pads. After about 6 months of her screaming, curled-up-in-the-fetal-position-on-the-floor cramps every month, I finally remembered someone at GCM mentioning that cloth pads would take care of the cramps. I ordered from you the next day.   She is now having her first pain free, leak free period ever. I apologize if this is way too much information, but I honestly have tears in my eyes writing this….I am so thrilled to have been able to help my daughter (and so pretty and inexpensively!).  I plan to order some for myself shortly.  Thank you!"

"Hi All,
I ordered cloth pads from LisaJaney and just wanted to let everyone know how great I think they are. She's a wonderful seamstress and she has the best price that I could find on the net. When I opened the package, my hubby said "Ooh, animal prints, how sexy!!" My mom was helping me with the laundry one day and she said, "What's that?" When I told her she just said, "Oh". I haven't told her about the Keeper yet :) Anyway, I just think they're great and wanted to brag on her. I wish I didn't have to use pads at all, but with the occasional little leaks that I have with my Keeper, I decided to get a few cloth pantiliner-weight pads. I love them!!"
--D.C.

"Just to let you know, I am very impressed and satisfied with the quality of construction and the attention you give to the tiniest detail in the sewing of your products.  The design and tailoring, the edges of the pads, materials used and the type of fasteners that insure the pad's staying in place, all makes your personal products superior to others available.  They are comfortable, dependable and the ease of laundering are details this customer appreciates!"  --C.K.

"The pads arrived yesterday and I love them!!! I wore one last night and just ran four miles today with another one on, and they feel so comfortable. They are sooo soft and comfy, and my daughters cannot wait until they can have some (although I can certainly wait for that time!). Thank you so much for the beautiful craftsmanship you have shared with others and I pray that God will bless you in your business."

-- A. P.

"Hi there LisaJaney! My pads got here today and I am very happy!! You do wonderful work and I will definitely refer anyone that I know who is looking for cloth pads to you! I had been following your posts on the Keeper newsgroup and I have looked at your website: your kindness shows through. I opted to order my pads from you because I do think your kindness shows even when it is not necessarily intentional. That's when you truly have it!! I just wanted to let you know why I chose you. Thanks for making the pads for me!"

-- K, McG

"Just wanted to let you know that the pads arrived today. Thank you for your work & attention to detail -- I appreciate your care on colors & the pouch & the instructions for laundering. I am sure this will help my dear-daughter feel better about the rapidly approaching changes... it seems so much more feminine than disposable products. Thank you again. I have 2 younger daughters, so will no doubt be back for more."

-- M, K.

"Your pads are the best! I am so happy with them. They are comfy, wash out wonderfully, so nice not to have to shell out money to big companies ever again for such things! They are also very well made. Thanks for all the help with the transaction, and for the work , you have a quality product!"

-- S, T,

"LisaJaney, I received the 4 extra long pads in the mail today. Boy, that was quick!  I admire the high quality of the pads: they're wonderfully sewn & look absolutely adorable, especially the animal print ones. I know I'll be using these pads for a very long time. Thank you so much & I hope to order more TLC Pads in the future! Thank you,"

-- T. T.

"Hi LisaJaney, I purchased pads from you about a little over a month ago. Well, I was finally able to try them. They work really well and are extremely comfortable. I love them. At first though, I did not think I would like the fit, ( I have been a contour pad wearer for many years) but they are more comfortable than the disposable contoured pads I had worn all those years. The calico pads are cooler, just like you said. I am going to send a rave about you at Amity. Thanks. God is good all the time...and all the time, God is good."

-- T. S.

"Well, I've had my first period with your pads and I must say they rock! They are sooooo much more comfortable than regular pads. And the pantiliners are fabulous! I think I would like to get some more, especially if you have more of that leopard print fabric. I like it. :) Thanks again!"
